Prosecutors call fatal shooting in Edmond justified

Daniel Joliff told Edmond police he “was forced to fire in self-defense” when Michael Ford came at him with a knife on Sept. 9, according to a search warrant affidavit filed this week in Oklahoma County District Court.

“We have reviewed the investigation in this matter and have determined the shooting was justified under the law,” First Assistant District Attorney Scott Rowland said. “Mr. Joliff was being assaulted by a man with a knife and thus had a reasonable fear for his life.”

The only other witness to the shooting was Ford's estranged wife, Christina, who began dating Joliff after her husband left in July and said “he no longer wanted to be married to her,” police reported.

She told police Ford entered a residence at 1505 Louise Scott Drive sometime after noon Sept. 9, “upset because he believed she had someone over in her bedroom,” according to the affidavit. The house is in the area of Danforth Road and Santa Fe Avenue in Edmond.
