Prosecutors filed a first-degree murder charge against an Oklahoma City man Tuesday, a day after he confessed to killing his mother, court documents show.

Fredric Hardeman Jr., 38, called his sister early Monday and told her he stabbed their mother, according to court documents.

Hardeman was arrested later that day on a murder complaint in connection with the death of his 60-year-old mother, Ocie Hardeman, police said.

Police went to Ocie Hardeman's apartment complex, Autumn Ridge Townhomes, 4436 NW 36, just after 1 a.m. Monday after the woman's daughter asked police to conduct a welfare check, according to the search warrant.

The younger woman told police her brother called her about 1 a.m. and said, “I did a bad thing, I stabbed Momma,” according to the search warrant.

Police found Fred Hardeman at the apartment that he shared with his mother. He told officers he stabbed his mother about 6 a.m. Sunday. Officers found a knife near Ocie Hardeman's body, according to investigative documents.

Fred Hardeman was being held Tuesday in the Oklahoma County jail with no bail, jail officials said.
