PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Providence's public art display WaterFire is holding a special river lighting honoring military veterans ahead of the Veterans Day holiday.

The special "Salute to Veterans" lighting will take place in downtown Providence after sunset on Saturday.

Organizers say the Rhode Island Professional Firefighters Pipes and Drums will lead a procession of veterans into Waterplace Basin. They will be joined by others surrounding the basin in a "ring of fire" ceremony. The Navy Band Northeast from Newport and the Army 88th Band will play the national anthem.

A resource fair will open earlier in the afternoon to provide information about issues veterans may face after leaving the military.

WPRI-TV reports that 50,000 veterans are expected to attend.

The federal Veterans Day holiday is Monday.
