Purcell's defense rolling heading into big matchup with Plainview

First-year Purcell coach Greg Willis has been impressed with his defense lately.

After shutting out Madill on Friday and allowing just 9 passing yards, the Dragons have allowed just 11.6 points per game this season.

“We’re not very complicated on defense,” Willis said. “We just try to make sure we get our guys in the right position to be successful. They’re just reacting well and playing good football right now.”

Sophomore outside linebacker Jake Combest is off to a strong start. He returned an interception for a touchdown Friday and returned a fumble for a touchdown the previous week against Pauls Valley.

Purcell (4-1, 2-0 District 3A-4) travels to No. 7 Plainview on Friday.
