WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) — Purdue athletics director Morgan Burke says about 6,100 bleacher seats in Ross-Ade Stadium's south end zone will be removed before the start of the Boilermakers' season.
Burke said Saturday the decision to remove the upper bleachers was made to avoid necessary maintenance and ensure their safety. He says removing the bleachers will give the area a new look and feel ahead of the stadium's planned renovation.
Purdue says an announcement will be made later on how the space will be used during the 2014 season.
Fans that purchased tickets in the upper bleachers for the upcoming season will be contacted by the Purdue Athletic Ticket Office starting Monday and offered seats in the lower bleachers or in the main stand's section 129 at no additional cost for the 2014 season.
