Purple hands, finger sores led to pulmonary fibrosis

The first sign of trouble came when Barbara Meyer’s hands turned purple in cold weather. Then ulcers, little sores, formed on her fingertips.

Meyer, an Air Force master sergeant who worked for the Air National Guard in Oklahoma City, consulted with a military doctor in December 2005. Thus began her medical journey, one that still has more questions than answers.
