Sandberg recalls time with 89ers
Ryne Sandberg's minor league career ended in Oklahoma City. Sandberg started the 1981 season with the Oklahoma City 89ers, then the Triple-A affiliate of the Phillies. He played 133 games with the 89ers, with 9 home runs and 62 RBIs, while hitting .293. He was called up at the end of that season, traded to the Cubs in the offseason and wound up playing 16 years in the major leagues, leading to his 2005 induction into the National Baseball Hall of Fame. Sandberg took time to answer some questions about Oklahoma City before his team started its four-game series against the RedHawks on Thursday night.
