CHICAGO (AP) — Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn and Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel are cheering the election of Greg Maddux and Frank Thomas to the Baseball Hall of Fame.
Thomas played for the Chicago White Sox and Maddux played for the Chicago Cubs. They were selected for the Baseball Hall of Fame on Wednesday.
The governor says fans across Illinois are excited that Thomas and Maddux will join "the ranks of baseball greatness." Quinn says the "Cubs-White Sox World Series will be here before we know it."
Emanuel congratulated the former players too. He says the city of Chicago is proud of them and grateful for their contributions to Chicago sports history.
