— A longtime race car driver was killed Friday in a wreck at the Thunder Valley Raceway Park.

Full details of the crash weren't available Saturday, but a Facebook page post identified the victim as Jerry Vanderpool.

“He had raced with us for a number of years. It was his passion,” said Marcia Crook, general manager of the track.

“He was just a wonderful racer and the racing community is rather close-knit, so it's been rather devastating for everyone involved,” she said.

Crook said the Oklahoma Highway Patrol and National Hot Rod Association are investigating the single-vehicle crash. has disabled the comments for this article.
