An Oklahoma City man was in jail Tuesday in connection with an assault on a letter carrier.
Postal worker Sheryl Garner was on her route about 3 p.m. Monday when she approached a house at 12005 Victoria Place, according to a police report.
She told police once she stepped on the porch, a man attacked her with a paring knife. She suffered several cuts on her left shoulder that went through her shirt and at least one that went through the skin, according to the report.
When officers arrived, they found Bennie Edwards, 54, sitting on the porch of the house. The house belongs to Edwards’ mother, who told police the man does not live there.
Edwards was arrested and booked into the Oklahoma County jail on a complaint of assault with a deadly weapon. He remained there Tuesday on $5,000 bail.
Garner was not taken to the hospital after the attack and continued her mail route.
