ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Adrian Beltre has a mild left quadriceps strain that will keep him out of the lineup a few days, but the Texas Rangers plan to wait and see if their third baseman can avoid a trip to the disabled list.

General manager Jon Daniels said Thursday that team physician Dr. Keith Meister was "pleasantly surprised" that the strain wasn't as severe as initially thought.

Beltre came out of Tuesday's game at Boston, then returned home for the exam and an MRI. The Rangers were off Thursday off before a 10-day homestand.

Daniels said the team will "play it conservatively" over the next few days.

The GM says there is roster flexibility until the team has to activate right-hander Colby Lewis for his season debut, likely Monday or Tuesday.
