Rangers manager once paid $200 fine in pennies Published: March 11, 2014

Rangers manager Ron Washington sent MLB $200 in pennies to pay a fine after an ejection during 2011 spring training.

Washington recalled the story at Rangers spring training on Saturday when he was almost booted for arguing after Prince Fielder struck out looking.

During a game in 2011, Washington was ejected, which resulted in a $100 fine, then didn't leave the dugout, which tacked on an extra $100.

Bob Watson, MLB vice president in charge of discipline, called after receiving a box of pennies from Washington. From the Fort Worth Star-Telegram:

Watson: “And you just had $200 in pennies hanging around?
Washington: “Yes. Bob, I didn’t have my checkbook. I wasn’t trying to be funny. Now go to the bank and put that in the [change] machine and get your $200.”
