NYON, Switzerland (AP) — Rapid Vienna is appealing an order to play a Europa League match in an empty stadium as punishment for its fans' violent behavior in Greece.

An appeals panel for European soccer's governing body will meet Friday to consider lifting the ban before Rapid's opening group-stage match against the Norwegian club Rosenborg next week.

The Austrian team was sanctioned after trouble flared between rival fans in the first leg of a playoff against PAOK in Thessaloniki last month.

UEFA also fined Rapid $96,000 and threatened the club with a one-season ban from European competition if crowd violence is repeated within three years. The club is also appealing those penalties.

Rapid's Europa League group includes Bayer Leverkusen and Metalist Kharkiv.
