Ratings watch: BCS title game draws viewers
ESPN’s telecast of the BCS Championship game posted a 17.8 fast national rating, the highest in the history of cable television, with 27.3 million viewers. The previous high was 15.3 for an ESPN Monday Night Football game, New England at New Orleans on Nov. 30, 2009. Oklahoma City finished seventh nationally for the BCS telecast with a 24.4 rating.
Ratings for other ESPN bowl telecasts included a 35.1 for the Fiesta Bowl (OU vs. Connecticut) and a 25.7 for the Alamo Bowl (OSU vs. Arizona). Compared to the previous season, OU’s rating was up 44 percent from the 2009 Sun Bowl on KWTV-9 and OSU’s rating was down 10 percent from the 2010 Cotton Bowl on KOKH-25.
