A Ravia man pleaded guilty to enabling child neglect and was sentenced to 20 years in prison for the June 19 death of his girlfriend's 21-month-old son, court officials said.

Clayton Joe Roberts, 19, waived his right to a preliminary hearing on Monday in Johnston County.

Victoria Darlene Wagner, 20, of Ravia, is charged with first-degree murder in the death of her son, Jason Guzman. She also waived her preliminary hearing and was ordered to trial, court officials said.

Roberts told an Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation agent he went into the bedroom about 9 p.m. and found the mother and son on a bed, where he also laid down.

After the toddler began to jump up and down on the bed, Wagner used the palm of her hand to hit her son “hard on his abdominal area,” the affidavit states.

Jason fell off the bed and landed against a wooden dresser, the affidavit states. The child said “Ow-Ow” and a few minutes later, Roberts told the agent, he noticed the boy was not breathing.

A medical examiner's report showed the child died from blunt force trauma to his abdomen.
