Ready to address concerns about 10-day college courses

Published: February 13, 2013

Western Oklahoma State College recently underwent a policy compliance review conducted by the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education. The focus of this review was Western's 10-day online intersession courses. The OSRHE believe these 10-day intersession courses may lack the same academic rigor as our traditional courses and may not be appropriate as college-level courses within our curriculum.

As president of the college, I'm confident about the innovative work of our faculty and staff in pursuing and transferring knowledge and the academic rigor of all of our courses. Our high standards of academic quality and commitment to learning through the use of technology drive the processes we use to identify and add courses of all formats to our inventory. I believe every student should have access to a quality, affordable education delivered in the manner he or she chooses. I look forward to thoroughly examining the recommendations contained in the OSRHE compliance review report and working with the regents to address all concerns they may have regarding academic quality issues.

WOSC will continue to take every step available to maintain its public transparency and accountability to state and national accrediting agencies. The college will continue to represent the residents of its five-county service area in a manner that reflects the institutional integrity of employees and students and remain faithful to the mission of meeting the educational needs of the students.
