Record number of Republicans turned out to vote Tuesday
About 30 percent of Oklahoma's registered GOP voters cast ballots in Tuesday's primary elections. Overall, about 25 percent of the state's Republican and Democratic voters turned out to vote, a state election official says.
Attracted by the most GOP races on a statewide ballot in recent years, Oklahoma Republicans came out in record numbers Tuesday, voting figures show.

"It certainly has to be a primary with one of the largest number of contested Republican primaries for statewide office in certainly a long time," Election Board Secretary Paul Ziriax said. "That probably drove turnout."
About 30 percent, or 249,031, of the state's 822,290 registered Republicans voted in Tuesday's election.
Democratic turnout was lower. About 26 percent, or 263,649, of the state's 998,964 registered Democrats went to the polls. More Democrats, or 264,467, turned out in the gubernatorial race four years ago. Democrats had only three statewide races to consider — U.S. Senate, governor and state schools superintendent. Democrats had two contested U.S. House seats.
