Ainsworth filed the $600 fee, and a recount is set for 1 p.m. Tuesday, said Jane Crawford, the county's election board secretary.

Unofficial results showed challenger Tony Almaguer defeating Ainsworth, 451 to 450, in the Republican primary.

The manual recount will be overseen by the election board and a judge. The winner will face Democrat Travis Daugherty in the November general election.

Just heard this this evening. There were two extra votes for some reason had to appear before a judge to make a decision on whether to count them. This happened today. I didn't understand the reason why these two votes had to appear before a judge. Something on the fact whether the votes were valid. One vote didn't count, the other vote counted. That vote was for Rick A. Therefore making the sheriff election a dead tie. 541-541. Wouldn't it be great if there was a movie made about this type of situation. The title could be Swing vote.
