Recruiting notebook: Southmoore's Mason Myers picks Colorado State
Published: October 27, 2009
Senior offensive lineman Mason Myers becomes the second Southmoore football player to orally commit with a Division I school.
Myers, 6-foot-3 and 268 pounds, committed to Colorado State last week and visited the Rams’ campus this weekend. Myers joins wide receiver/defensive back Julian Wilson, who committed to Oklahoma before the season started. Myers also had an offer from North Texas. The two should be joined by more SaberCats as Austin Haywood, Derek Serowski and Nyko Symonds are all being heavily recruited. Haywood’s offers include Arizona, Baylor and Kansas.MIDWEST CITY’S JONES NEARS DECISION
After Midwest City blew out Putnam City 56-7 Thursday night, Bombers defensive lineman Dominique Jones said he was close to making his college choice public. Jones said he had narrowed his list to four — Arizona, Kansas State, Louisville and Missouri. "It’s going pretty good,” Jones said. "I’m kind of getting close to a decision.” Jones, a 6-foot-2, 278-pound defensive tackle, had a 61-yard interception return for a touchdown in the Bombers win. He’s the No. 16-ranked player in The Oklahoman’s Super 30 list. He’s the state’s top uncommitted player.LUETJEN OPEN TO POSITION SWITCH
Hennessey quarterback Matt Luetjen is getting plenty of recruiting attention. Much of it, though, is from teams looking to move Luetjen to a slot receiver spot or to the secondary. "He really wants to play quarterback in college, but he’s open to play anywhere,” Eagles coach Shannon Watford said. "He just wants to play.” Luetjen does play free safety for undefeated Hennessey, averaging a little under 10 tackles per game. He’s likely to play cornerback or strong safety at the next level, though. Luetjen’s offers include Air Force, Army, Columbia, Dartmouth, Harvard and Princeton. He’s also drawn attention from Texas Christian, Kansas, Colorado State and Missouri. He visited with Army earlier this month.
