The traditional Christmas Day event, The Red Andrews Christmas Dinner, is set for 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dec. 25 at the Cox Convention Center.
The Red Andrews' Christmas Dinner Foundation, which organizes the dinner, is asking for the community's support with toy and monetary donations to meet the needs for the event.
The Red Andrews Christmas Dinner provides a warm, healthy meal to approximately 6,000 people who would otherwise not have a holiday dinner, and provides a toy for every child in attendance.
Monetary donations to help support the event can be mailed to UMB Bank, attention Mary Blankenship Pointer, 204 N Robinson, Suite 200, Oklahoma City, OK 73102. Checks should be made payable to the Red Andrews Christmas Dinner.
Toy donations also are being accepted and can be dropped off at each UMB metro location, including: 204 N Robinson, Stockyards, Penn Square, and 6500 N Broadway.
“We will have around 1,000 volunteers at this year's event and we are asking the community for their support leading up to the holidays,” said Pointer, an organizer of the annual event and senior vice president of business development in UMB Bank's Oklahoma region, in a news release.
“We will be serving meals from the time we open the doors until the last person is served — no one will leave this event hungry.”
