Red Earth Fine Art Competition Awards

More than $32,000 in cash prizes were awarded Thursday at the 2008 Red Earth Fine Art Competition. The winning artists, tribal affiliation and artwork are as follows:

Grand Award, $2,500: Benson Manygoats, Navajo, for "Shush," a14-carat gold reversible necklace.

President's Award, $1,300: Joel Queen, Eastern Cherokee, for Traditional pit-fired Cherokee clay pot.

Kathleen Everett Upshaw Award, $800: Vanessa Jennings, Kiowa-Apache-Pima, for Kiowa battle dress.

Other awards were presented as follows:

Division I - Cultural Items: Personal Ornamentation, Utilitarian, Basketry, Diversified

Best of Cultural Items Award, $1,000: Vanessa Jennings, Kiowa-Apache-Pima, for Red-styled beaded buckskin cradle board.
