DES MOINES, Iowa — The Oklahoma RedHawks will have a little wind in their sails tonight after evening a five-game Pacific Coast League playoff series. The RedHawks beat Iowa 6-2 on Thursday night at Principal Park and now return to AT&T Bricktown Ballpark to finish the first-round series.

"We just need to keep it going,” Oklahoma manager Bobby Jones said. "I don't know how you do that, but we're just going to go about it just like we have all season long.”

Heading home couldn't come at a better time for the RedHawks, who went on an eight-game, regular-season road trip to Round Rock and Memphis before heading to Des Moines to open the playoffs. While home field is nice, it's no guarantee of a win. The RedHawks are 40-32 at home this season and 37-36 on the road.

"I don't know how much it helps,” Jones said. "We've been OK at home, we haven't been outstanding. So I'm not sure if it helps, but I know we've been on the road for a long time, and we're eager to get back home and see what happens. This was a big win for us, so we'll go from there.”

The RedHawks departed by bus after Thursday night's game and were scheduled to arrive in Oklahoma City at around 4 a.m. today. The Cubs elected to fly and didn't leave Des Moines until 5 this morning.

"I'd rather bus,” Jones said. "We're going to be home by the time they get in the air. We'll have a chance to get four or five hours of sleep before they even get here.”

The RedHawks received a strong pitching effort from winning pitcher Derek Lee, who began the season in the Mexican League and was signed by the Texas Rangers in July. He was recently activated from the disabled list.

"He was outstanding,” Jones said. "He was spotting his pitches and getting them to chase pitches up high and outside. The last time out, he threw a real good game in Memphis, so we wanted to make sure he was active for the playoffs. We were lucky he was ready to go.”
