Brett Wallace fell a triple short of hitting for the cycle Sunday afternoon during the Oklahoma City RedHawks' 8-1 rout of Memphis before 3,086 fans at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark. After losing on opening night, the RedHawks won the final three games of the series. Oklahoma City scored 28 runs on 40 hits and batted .305 for the series.
AT THE PLATE
Scott Moore added two hits for Oklahoma City, including his first double of the season. Overall, the RedHawks battered six Memphis pitchers 11 hits. Wallace, Fernando Martinez and Justin Ruggiano also doubled for the Hawks. ... Former Owasso High star Pete Kozma had Memphis' only RBI, a fourth-inning single.
ON THE MOUND
Jordan Lyles, one of the Houston Astros' top pitching prospects, was solid for OKC. He allowed a run on seven hits. Lyles walked just one and struck out five through six innings. Mickey Storey, Enerio Del Rosario and Jose Valdez blanked the Redbirds on three hits over the last three innings.
The RedHawks (3-1) begin a four-game series at 7:05 p.m. Monday against the Nashville Sounds (1-3), the top farm team of the Milwaukee Brewers. Right-hander Henry Sosa is the scheduled starter for the RedHawks. Righty Seth McClung is set to start for Nashville. It will be the first start of the season for both pitchers.
