RedHawks complete homestand with win over Cubs

The RedHawks won their fourth straight over the Cubs and finished 6-3 in the nine-game series against Iowa.

Brett Wallace hit a solo home run in the first inning, his first since joining Oklahoma City on July 31, and the RedHawks scored their only other run in the second when pitcher Andy Van Hekken grounded into a double play.

Five RedHawks' pitchers combined to hold Iowa to eight hits and one earned run.


Game time temperature for the 4:05 p.m. start Sunday afternoon at RedHawks Field in Bricktown was 106 degrees. The only game hotter this season was 107 degrees on July 9 at home vs. Omaha.


The RedHawks won the season series against Iowa, 10-6, going 7-1 against the Cubs at RedHawks Field in Bricktown. Oklahoma City and Iowa played nine consecutive games starting Aug. 20.

“Nine days is tough,” RedHawks' manager Tony DeFrancesco said. “To win six out of nine the way we did, you got to give (our) guys credit. After awhile they start knowing your strengths and weaknesses.”
