RedHawks 4, Nashville 2
Oklahoma City won its fourth straight game since losing the season opener Thursday against the Memphis Redbirds.
On Monday night, before 2,689 fans at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark, the RedHawks opened a four-game homestand against Nashville and were held hitless for four innings by Sounds' starting pitcher Seth McClung.
The RedHawks then erupted for four runs in the fifth inning as McClung was lifted after facing four batters without recording an out. Both Brett Wallace and Brad Snyder opened the frame with singles and later scored on an RBI single by Jimmy Paredes and a wild pitch. Fernando Martinez delivered a two-out, two-RBI single later in the inning.
AT THE PLATE
Martinez's two RBIs Monday night gave him the team lead for the RedHawks with six RBIs in their first five games. Wallace has five RBIs on the season.
The RedHawks only had five singles against Nashville on Monday night, but four of them came in their four-run fifth inning. Oklahoma City also had two runners reach base in the fifth inning on a walk and a hit batsman.
ON THE MOUND
Sergio Perez picked up the win in relief of starter Henry Sosa, who went four innings and allowed only one earned run. Perez, Adalberto Flores, Enerio Del Rosario and Juan Abreu combined to pitch five innings of relief for Oklahoma City. Abreu tossed a scoreless ninth for his second save of the season.
The RedHawks (4-1) will play the second game of the series against Nashville (1-4) Tuesday at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark. Paul Clemens (0-1) will start for the RedHawks against Nashville's Mike Fiers (0-0). Game time is 7:05 p.m.
