EL RENO — The Redlands Community College Board of Regents on Thursday night appointed Jack Bryant as acting president of the financially troubled college.

Bryant had been serving as Redlands' vice president for workforce and economic development.

He will replace former Redlands President Larry Devane, 67, who resigned Monday night.

“We are entering one of the most challenging periods our institution has ever faced, and we will all feel the strain of the heavy load we will be required to carry on our shoulders for the foreseeable future,” Bryant said. “However, I am confident that the talented and dedicated faculty and staff of our institution, along with our Board of Regents, are up to this challenge, and together we will persevere, finding solutions that will build a stronger and more productive institution that will better serve our students and citizens of Oklahoma.”

Devane resigned after some regents expressed shaken confidence in his leadership. A financial analysis of Redlands requested by the State Regents for Higher Education revealed Redlands had more than $1.1 million in unpaid obligations, many of which were several months past due.

Devane served as president of Redlands 24 years.
