NORMAN — Mike Reed came to Oklahoma as the answer at middle linebacker.
He'll leave the Sooner football team without having ever made an impact on the field.
The OU sports information department confirmed Monday morning that Reed is no longer on the team.
Reed declined to comment on what his plans might be.
According to the school's registrar's office, Reed remains enrolled full-time at OU. But now not on the team, Reed will probably consider transferring to another school.
The junior-college transfer arrived in Norman with much fanfare out of Marysville Yuba (Calif.) College as the top prospect from the 2007 recruiting class. But Reed never made a difference on the field and was beaten out at middle linebacker by Curtis Lofton, who would go on to earn Big 12 player of the year honors.
Off the field, Reed struggled financially to support his wife and kids, while playing football and attending classes all at the same time.
