Regional Food Bank lauds Devon employees

Published: June 9, 2012

Final results of our Feeding Hope and Letter Carriers' Food Drive aren't in, but we already have a reason to celebrate. On May 31, it was announced that Devon Energy Corp. employees raised more than $380,000 for the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma, with an additional $380,000 in matching funds from Devon. This donation, combined with more than 860 Devon employee volunteer hours worked this year, is a testament to their level of commitment to the fight against hunger.

The gift will allow the food bank to provide 3.8 million meals — the equivalent of three meals a day for nearly 181,000 people, seven days straight! Devon employees also volunteered during the May 12 food drive and then rallied to assemble 6.5 truck trailers full of canned food items. This saved the food bank over nine days of volunteer time and allowed us to immediately make this food available to our partner agencies.

Oklahoma is blessed to have many generous philanthropic individuals, foundations, corporations and organizations who support a variety of worthwhile causes. We appreciate all of them and are especially grateful to have Devon and its employees as a partner.
