Church celebrates 125th Anniversary with activities

Avery Chapel AME Church continues its 125th church anniversary activities with services set for 3 p.m. Sunday at 1425 N Kelham. The Rev. Lee Cooper, senior pastor of Prospect Baptist Church, will be guest preacher.

Pastor’s anniversary is set

O Church will celebrate the Rev. Gary D. Agee Sr.’s 35th anniversary in ministry at 10 a.m. Sunday at 3960 E Interstate 240 Service Road.

Agee is the church’s founding pastor. Prior to starting O Church, Agee served as pastor of several other ministries, including Church at Berea in Oklahoma City and Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in Arcadia. Agee, an Air Force veteran, is a longtime mental health professional.

St. Mary’s CME Church plans Women’s Day services

The annual Women’s Day Services will be at 11 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Sunday at St. Mary’s CME Church, 1201 Martin Luther King Ave.

Martha Butler, a lifelong member of St. Mary’s, will speak at the 11 a.m. service, and the Rev. Alice Richardson, an assistant minister from Prospect Baptist Church, will speak at the 3:30 p.m. service. Refreshments will be served after the service. For more information, call 424-6848.

Buddhist Mind monastery offers free meditation classes

Free meditation classes are set for 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesdays beginning Tuesday at Buddha Mind Monastery, 5800 S Anderson Road.

Attendees are asked to arrive about 15 minutes early and dress in comfortable, modest attire. Each meditation class will consist of instructed meditation practice in the first hour, and a lecture on Buddhist principles in the second hour. The free classes will be offered on Tuesdays through July 22. For more information, go to www.ctbuddhamind.org.

Disciples of Christ gathering set

— About 300 members of Christian (Disciples of Christ) churches in Oklahoma will gather for a biennial assembly Friday and May 3 at First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) of Norman, 220 S Webster. About 150 Disciples of Christ youths will meet concurrently in Norman with topics and activities in the theme of “Grace-Full.”
