Church to host outreach project

A local church is joining others nationwide in an outreach project for Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn.

As Sandy Hook students prepare to finish the remainder of their academic year in a new school, New Life Bible Church is joining others in helping to create a winter wonderland for students when they return to their new school in January.

People are encouraged to join in the effort by visiting the church at 4343 N Flood between 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to create a paper snowflake.

All supplies — paper, glue, scissors and glitter — will be provided by the church.

Church member Jackie Lindley suggested the idea after seeing similar projects going on elsewhere.

Snowflakes for Sandy Hook was spearheaded by the Connecticut Parent Teacher Student Association. Since no two snowflakes are alike, the association is requesting as many original homemade snowflakes as possible.

Churches offer ministry sessions

Catholics Returning Home is a parish based ministry of compassion and reconciliation designed to reach out and invite nonpracticing or inactive Catholics to return home to the Catholic Church and resume an active practice of their faith.

Several area sessions Catholics Returning Home sessions are planned beginning in January. The program is led by lay Catholics, many of whom have also “returned.” This ministry provides opportunities for seekers to share their hurts or reasons for being away from the church; informational updates about changes in the church; and support and many resources to help returnees to reconnect with the Catholic Church.

Child care can be arranged upon request.
