Shelter to host chapel ceremony

The Jesus House will host a blessing and dedication ceremony for the shelter's remodeled chapel at 2 p.m. Friday at 1335 W Sheridan. The chapel has been remodeled and updated by the outreach committee at All Souls' Episcopal Church in Nichols Hills. The Rev. Patrick Bright, rector of All Souls', will lead the service. Neurosurgeon to speak at gala

Renowned author and neurosurgeon Dr. Benjamin Carson will be the featured speaker at the Oklahoma Baptist University Green and Gold Gala set for 7 p.m. March 4 at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum in Oklahoma City. Carson is an emeritus director of neurosurgery, oncology, plastic surgery and pediatrics at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, where he directed pediatric neurosurgery at the Johns Hopkins Children's Center for 39 years. In 2008, he was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest civilian honor in the land. The 2009 award-winning movie “Gifted Hands: The Ben Carson Story,” starring Cuba Gooding Jr., is based on his memoir. The Green and Gold Gala is a scholarship fundraiser. Cost is $125 per ticket, which includes dinner; $80 of that price will go toward scholarships as a tax-deductible gift to OBU.
