Christ United Methodist Church will celebrate the anniversary of its pastor, the Rev. Semaj Y. Vanzant Sr., on Sunday at 1006 NE 17. The first service of celebration will be at 10:45 a.m. with the Rev. Byron L. Benton, of Berean Baptist Church of Raleigh, N.C., as guest pastor. The second service will be at 3:30 p.m. with the Rev. A. Byron Coleman of Fifth Street Missionary Baptist Church as guest preacher. Vanzant, his wife, Carla, and their son, Semaj Jr., came to Oklahoma in 2011 from Brooklyn, N.Y. New ministry started
First Baptist Church of Oklahoma City has started a ministry focused on Hispanic families and individuals within its larger church. Church leaders invite anyone with an interest in Hispanic culture or a desire to work with Spanish-speaking families in the Oklahoma City area to participate. The church provides free classes in English as a second language for anyone in the community. Hispanic ministry members can take classes, help teach students or serve as conversation partners. Workshop is set
The music and fine arts ministry of Fifth Street Baptist Church will host its annual Easter Week Workshop March 26-29 at 801 NE 5. The workshop will include presentations for mass choir, mime, liturgical dance and creative expressions, which encompasses drama and other variations of spoken word. Meaghan Williams, a national recording artist, will be the guest clinician. A light dinner will be served each night of the workshop. Children are welcome to participate. Church calls new pastor
The Rev. John Malget, an Oklahoma native, is the new senior minister of First Christian Church of Oklahoma City. Malget's first Sunday at the First Christian-Oklahoma City pulpit was March 3. He will officially be installed on April 28. He formerly served as associate pastor for eight years at Memorial Drive Christian Church in Houston. Malget and his wife, Sherri, have two children.
