Religion briefs for March 9

The presentation, under the direction of Ellefson and Judith Willoughby, will feature the OCU Bass School's 70-voice Ad Astra women's chorus and the 36 singers of the University Men's Chorus.

“Stabat Mater,” to be performed by Ad Astra in the original Latin, is the best-known sacred work of the Italian composer Giovanni Battista Pergolesi. The work, a tribute to Mary as she witnessed the crucifixion, was composed to be sung each Friday in Lent at the church of San Luigi di Palazzo in Naples.

John L. Edwards, organist at First Presbyterian Church of Oklahoma City, will perform on St. Eugene's new 132-rank Walker organ for the opening and closing pieces.

Admission is free and open to the public. The 75-minute program will run without intermission.

OBU group will sing at local church

NICOMA PARK — Oklahoma Baptist University's Bison Glee Club, an all-male choral group, will sing during the 10:45 a.m. service on Sunday at First Baptist Church of Nicoma Park, 1931 Nichols Drive.

The Bison Glee Club is an auditioned group of musicians on the OBU campus in Shawnee. The group has toured extensively throughout the United Stated as well as in Canada and Europe. The group is under the direction of Brent Ballweg, director of choral activities.

Visiting choir plans concert

The Greenville College Choir of Greenville, Ill., will perform in concert at 7 p.m. Monday at Quail Springs Baptist Church, 14613 N May.

The choir consists of 45 undergraduate students from various fields of liberal arts study, including the college's five music degree programs. Jeffrey S. Wilson has served as the choir's conductor since 1996.

Greenville College is a four-year accredited Christian liberal arts school founded in 1892 and affiliated with the Free Methodist Church.
