In brief
EDMOND — First Baptist Church of Edmond has selected the Rev. Blake Gideon as senior pastor.
Gideon will occupy the pulpit officially on Oct. 21. He will be only the fourth pastor to lead the church in 78 years. His appointment follows the death of the Rev. R. Alan Day in February 2011.
Gideon comes from First Baptist Church in Inola, where he has served as senior pastor since 2008. He has led mission teams to Mexico, India and Bangladesh.
Gideon graduated from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, in Fort Worth, Texas. In 2012, he received a Master of Divinity degree from the Luther Rice Seminary, and he is working toward a doctorate in ministry from New Orleans Theological Seminary.
Gideon and his wife, Kelly, have 4 children: Seth, 10, Matthew, 8, Caleb, 6; Ashlyn, 5.
Cellists will perform
EDMOND — Church of the Good Shepherd will present cellists Rebecca Shaw and Tess Remy-Schumacher in concert at 3 p.m. Sunday at 1000 N Broadway. Admission is free.

Day care leader to be recognized
Council Road Baptist Church will honor Nancy Coffey for 40 years of service to the church's day care center at the 9:15 and 10:45 a.m. worship services Sunday at 2900 N Council Road.
Coffey began working with Council Road Baptist Day Care in May 1972 and has served as its director since July 1973. A reception in Coffey's honor is planned after the 10:45 a.m. worship service.
Church leaders are encouraging anyone who has been involved with the day care or who just would like to celebrate with Coffey and her family to attend this celebration service and reception.

Concert series continues
Guitarist Edgar Cruz will be featured performer at the First Tuesday@First Luthern Concert set for noon Tuesday at 1300 N Robinson.
The concert and parking are free. An optional lunch will be available after the concert for $8.
