Religious group seeks ways to end hunger issues in Oklahoma
A forum called “Fighting Hunger in Oklahoma” will be Aug. 11 at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, a covenant church with Bread for the World.
Making sure all people have adequate food should be a priority for faith communities.
So said members of a group of civic and Christian leaders who plan to gather Aug. 11 to discuss ways to combat hunger in Oklahoma and around the world.

The “Fighting Hunger in Oklahoma” forum will be at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 5024 N Grove in Warr Acres.
Margaret Phipps, a pastoral associate at the church, said the parish has partnered with Bread for the World to tackle poverty concerns for about 25 years. In the past 15 years, the church has been a “covenant church” with the group, which means church members regularly pray about hunger and educate themselves about issues surrounding it. They also give their time and resources to help end hunger, she said.
Phipps said the public is invited to the forum to hear experts on the topic.
Speakers include Rodney Bivens, executive director of the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma; the Rev. William Tabernee, executive director of the Oklahoma Conference of Churches; Richard Klinge, associate director of advocacy, outreach and legal service with Catholic Charities of Oklahoma City; and Keaton Andreas, a regional organizer for Bread for the World, a nonprofit based in Washington, D.C., that champions the rights of the impoverished.
