QUINTON — Authorities are working to identify human remains that were found near the Pittsburg County and Haskell County line.

Pittsburg County Undersheriff Richard Bedford says the remains were found Dec. 13 on a ranch north of Quinton. Pittsburg County Investigator Tommy Lyons says they haven't identified the remains but that they belong to a male.

Lyons tells a local newspaper that the remains had been there about one to two years.

The state medical examiner's office will determine the cause and manner of death.

Bedford says authorities are checking missing persons reports to see if anyone had disappeared in the area.
