Remembering Chad Peery

“The Peery family is asking for privacy until such time as they are able to make a publicstatement. On this day, the Peery familyhas lost a devoted father, a brother and son. The police department has lost a valued brother and partner. The community lost a public servant and a hero. Chad continues to serve the public and his fellow man through organ donation. In lieu of flowers, the Peery family requests donations be made to the Chad Peery Foundation for officers in distress and need as a result of injuries received in the line of duty.”

Capt. Dexter Nelson, Oklahoma City Police Department spokesman

“Chad exemplified the courage of our Oklahoma City police officers, who routinely put their lives and well-being at risk to serve and protect the people of Oklahoma City. In Chad's case, he demonstrated remarkable courage while trying to maintain the peace at an area establishment — an act that left him paralyzed. Chad's life after that incident was perhaps a more inspiring lesson in courage. His injury did not change his commitment or service to this community. He returned to the Oklahoma City Police Department, where he served as an inspiration to his fellow officers and the city of Oklahoma City. Our deepest sympathies are extended to his family and friends, as well as his families at the Oklahoma City Police Department, Oklahoma Fraternal Order of Police and the many members of this community touched and inspired by his heroic story.”
