Average daily on-track pari-mutuel handle was down less than 1 percent from last year during Remington Park's first race meet under its new Oklahoma-based tribal ownership, a sign that a top state horse racing official said is positive.

The track said patrons wagered about $3.514 million on 49 race dates during the just-completed quarter horse meet, an average of $71,716 per card.

At a time when many U.S. racetracks are seeing declining wagering numbers, Constantin Rieger, the executive director of the Oklahoma Horse Racing Commission, said Remington Park's numbers bode well.

"That's remarkable for this day and age,” Rieger said. "Not too many racetracks can brag about that. That's a good sign they're hanging in and holding their own.”

Global Gaming RP LLC, a subsidiary of the Ada-based Chickasaw Nation, took over operation of the racetrack and casino on Jan. 1.
