With construction set to begin on a new downtown parking garage in the next 30 days, the Oklahoma City Urban Renewal Authority is taking a second shot at soliciting interest in developing housing on the top floors.
The Central Oklahoma Transportation and Parking Authority recently approved a $20.6 million bid submitted by Flintco for the 830-space, 10-story garage to be built west of the Hightower Building, 105 N Hudson Ave., immediately east of the city's finance building at 100 N Walker Ave., and between Colcord Avenue and Main Street.
Requests for development proposals were first sought in January with a due date last month. No offers were submitted for what would have been the first example of city parking topped with private housing.
Designs allow for three additional floors of housing, with 60 units spread out over 80,000 square feet.
Urban Renewal director Cathy O'Connor said Monday another request for development proposals is being sent out after the authority received new inquiries. Proposals will be due May 7.
We think that if we're able to get some responses by May, and we evaluate and make a decision by the end of May, we should still be able to coincide with COTPA's timeline.”
