Rep. Frank Lucas Won't Support Military Options in Syria

Rep. Frank Lucas, R-Cheyenne, had been deeply skeptical of U.S. military intervention in Syria but pledged to listen to arguments in Washington before making a final decision. On Tuesday, Lucas said he wouldn’t support any of the military options on the table.
“After listening to my constituents at town hall meetings and hearing from them through many phone calls and emails, it is obvious they are overwhelmingly opposed to U.S. military intervention in Syria, and I completely agree with them,” Lucas said in a statement late Tuesday afternoon.
“Upon returning to Washington, D.C. and participating in a classified briefing conducted by the Administration, State Department, Office of the Director of Intelligence, House Intelligence Committee and the Department of Defense, I can assure the people of the Third District that I will not support any of the military options currently proposed and being debated in the U.S. House of Representatives. Military involvement in Syria is not in America’s best interest and President Obama has yet to put forth a plan that convinces me that we should get involved.”
Given the last-minute diplomatic option being pursued by Russia, Congress may not vote on a resolution authorizing force in Syria. President Barack Obama is scheduled to give a speech to the nation at 8 p.m. central time Tuesday.
