Free-agent forward Caron Butler will sign a two-year contract in the $9 million range with the Detroit Pistons, sources close to the situation told ESPN.com.
The Oklahoma City Thunder acquired Butler from the Milwaukee Bucks during the 2013-14 season to bolster the team during its playoff run. Butler helped the Thunder to the Western Conference Finals against the San Antonio Spurs, along the way shooting 36 percent from 3-point range in 18 postseason games.
As recently as last week, Kevin Durant was attempting to persuade Butler to stay with the Thunder. Over the weekend, however, the Thunder agreed to terms with shooting guard Anthony Morrow, seemingly spelling out the end to Butler's short tenure in OKC. See this story on espn.go.com
