Report: Derek Fisher talks briefly about Knicks job with Phil Jackson Published: June 6, 2014

New York Knicks president Phil Jackson had a brief telephone conversation with Derek Fisher on Wednesday, a source confirmed to ESPN's Chris Broussard.

Fisher has taken time to consider his future in Oklahoma City after the Thunder was eliminated in the Western Conference Finals by the San Antonio Spurs.

“Always envisioned finishing up as a player, at whatever point, then take a step back,” Fisher said at his exit interview on Sunday. “You go on a sabbatical for a year or two. You go home and be the best at-home dad you can be for awhile, then you make some decisions about what you want to do next.

“(But) that’s not the way the world works these days, in business, in sports, in life. So much of life is timing and opportunity and being able to take advantage of the right opportunities and the right situations at the right time.”

Jackson was fined $25,000 by the NBA earlier this week for mentioning Fisher as a possibility to coach the Knicks next season.
