Former Oklahoma coach Kelvin Sampson is making a return to the college game with the University of Houston.
Yahoo Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski is reporting per sources that Houston and Sampson are nearing an agreement to make him the next head coach of the Cougars. (UPDATE 3:21 p.m.: Houston Chronicle reports Sampson, UH reach five-year deal).
CBSSports.com also confirmed the report of Sampson's imminent hiring.
In terms of location, it wouldn't be a far move for Sampson, who is currently an assistant with the NBA's Houston Rockets, but would it be the best move? Sampson last coached collegiately with Indiana in 2008, and has been an NBA assistant since.
According to the report, Sampson is expected to hire his son, Kellen, as an assistant. Kellen Sampson spent the past three years as an assistant coach at Appalachian State.
