A Tulsa high school has been named the best in the state by U.S. News and World Report.

The publication evaluated more than 20,000 schools across the country. In Oklahoma, Booker T. Washington High School was named the best. The school finished No. 325 in the national rankings.

Classen School of Advanced Studies, in Oklahoma City, was named the No. 2 high school in the state. Edmond North High School finished third.

All three Edmond high schools and both Norman high schools finished in the top 10.

“This report is further validation of the strength of our high schools,” Edmond Superintendent David Goin said in a statement. “But while this report recognizes our high schools, we know that the foundation for success is laid at the elementary and middle school levels, and so I extend my congratulations to teachers and staff across the district who are dedicated to giving students their best.”

The survey analyzed 490 Oklahoma high schools using four categories: student-teacher ratio, college readiness, algebra proficiency and English proficiency.

For student-teacher ratio, TRAICE Academy in Tulsa had the lowest with two students for every teacher. Sweetwater High School had a 3-to-1 ratio, and Billings High School had a 4-to-1 ratio.

For college readiness, the survey looked at how many students took Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate exams and how well those students fared. Booker T. Washington High School earned the highest score. Classen School of Advanced Studies finished second.
