ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) — A student task force has found that the University of Michigan failed to explain a yearslong delay between the alleged sexual assault of a student by former football player Brendan Gibbons and his expulsion in December.

The Central Student Government examined the Ann Arbor school's student sexual misconduct policy and released its task force's findings Sunday.

It says Michigan routinely failed to meet deadlines to conduct investigations and that football coach Brady Hoke likely lied about Gibbons when asked why the kicker wasn't with the team for a December bowl game. Gibbons hasn't been charged.

In a statement, university spokesman Rick Fitzgerald says the school hopes "the CSG's focus on these issues will lead to a greater awareness of the student sexual misconduct policy and even more survivors coming forward."
