Report: West Virginia internal review finds no NCAA infractions, misconduct by former Oklahoma State assistant Joe DeForest

West Virginia’s internal review into former Oklahoma State assistant Joe DeForest found no “infractions of NCAA rules or other misconduct at our institution,” the university said in a statement released to TheDPost.com Wednesday morning.

The review stemmed from DeForest being one of the more prominent figures named in Sports Illustrated’s five-part investigative series on OSU released last month. Multiple players alleged they either were paid by DeForest or saw teammates receive payments from the coach, while former Cowboy Chris Wright alleged DeForest became angry when a recruit Wright hosted one weekend did not have sex while on the visit.

West Virginia’s statement also deferred to OSU and the NCAA to comment on any allegations made against DeForest during his time in Stillwater.

DeForest, who coached at OSU from 2001-11, has not been made available for interviews since the series was published, but denied to Sports Illustrated that he paid players or that the conversation with Wright about the recruit took place.

Here’s the full statement from West Virginia:

“West Virginia University has conducted an internal review as a result of the recent articles from a national media outlet, which includes allegations against one of our current assistant football coaches surrounding his time of employment at a previous institution. WVU has not found any infractions of NCAA rules or other misconduct at our institution. WVU is unable to comment on the veracity of the media allegations levied against the assistant coach while employed at another institution, and defers to that institution, as well as appropriate NCAA infractions personnel, to complete a review and assessment of those allegations.”
