At the end of April pink hearts began popping up around the Welland area in southern Ontario and Welland Tribune reporter Maryanne Firth was assigned to investigate. She wrote her first story on the subject more than a month ago about how no one would come forward to claim responsibility, according to KNLive.CTVNews.Ca.
"They were bright. They contained no message. They were everywhere," Firth wrote in a blog. "My curiosity was piqued." Firth even started a hashtag.
For more than three weeks, the signs were a mystery and the talk of the town. Then last week new signs began appearing next to the existing ones indicating an event on Sunday afternoon. Firth thought it was just her luck that she had to work this past weekend and would finally be able to get to the bottom of the mystery.
