Former Oklahoma state Sen. Randy Brogdon, an Owasso Republican, announced in December that he would challenge Gov. Mary Fallin this year. He was in Washington, DC on Tuesday to talk to “very important” people about switching to the U.S. Senate race, a campaign adviser said.
Louis Waller said Brogdon has been “inundated with people urging him to run” for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by Sen. Tom Coburn, R-Muskogee. Brogdon traveled to Washington to meet with “some very important like-minded people” about the race.
Waller declined to say whether those people worked for conservative groups like Club for Growth that could help provide the money Brogdon would need for the race. Some of those groups have nixed supporting U.S. Rep. James Lankford, R-Oklahoma City, in the race but haven’t embraced state Rep. T.W. Shannon, R-Lawton.
Brogdon ran against Fallin and two others in the 2010 Republican primary for governor and got 39 percent of the vote.
