Republicans gain on Democrats in state voter registration

BY RANDY KREHBIEL, Tulsa World Published: January 23, 2014

The Tulsa World reports that the state Election Board’s voter registration report, released every year on Jan. 15, shows that the GOP has moved to within roughly 31,000 voters of Democrats, who have held the advantage in registration since statehood.

This year’s report lists 885,609 Democrats, 854,329 Republicans, 238,870 independents, and four people registered as America Elects party members. That’s the closest Republicans and Democrats have ever been in registration numbers.

Given long-term trends, Oklahoma Republicans might officially outnumber Democrats by election day in November.
