NORMAN - The rest rooms at Rotary Park, 1501 W Boyd, will be closed indefinitely after vandals destroyed the facilities earlier this week.

Sometime between Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday morning, the toilets were smashed into pieces, city spokesman Scott Martin said.

"These were fairly brand new toilets," Martin said. "The buildings are available from spring until fall for park users, however some person or persons have decided to ruin this service through their criminal acts."

This isn't the first time vandals have destroyed public park facilities, Martin said.

"Each time, the city must scramble to find funds to repair things," Martin said.

Martin said as soon as money is available, Parks and Recreation staff will replace the facilities with stainless steel fixtures. Although more expensive than standard porcelain fixtures, they are harder to destroy, he said.

Anyone with information about the vandalism should call the Norman Police Department at 321-1600 or Crime Stoppers at 366-7867.
